Ven'tarian Art: Nightling

This was actually one of the first things I drew when I started my Ven'tarian artwork. This lovely fellow shows up in chapter one -- so there's not really much in the way of spoilers here.

If you've read any of my tutorials, you know I like drawing 'organic' and made-up things. They're a lot easier to draw than 'real' things like people or cats or houses. No one knows what they're supposed to look like, so you can't really tell if I've made a mistake. It takes the pressure off painting and makes the experience much more relaxing for me. I don't really have to think about what I'm doing.

I also like like working on crazy textures. I suppose it's a bit like doodling. There is no wrong way of doing it -- you just zoom in on a section and start noodling around with the detail. Color doesn't matter, neat lines don't matter, I just have fun. I could paint monsters all day long and never get tired of it.

But not everyone likes monsters. My mother for instances -- she just looks at these sorts of things and asks, "Why can't you paint something sweet looking?" But I don't know, this guy is kind of cute if you sort of squint at him.

Of course I only painted one Nightling -- and this time they came in a swarm. Rather scary thought to see thousands of these things flying at you.
