Ven'tarian Art: Bookstacker

I bet you're wondering why there is a painting of a robot in a fantasy novel? Well, it's not actually a robot. But I'm not going to spoil the surprise -- you'll have to read the book to find out what it is.

I ended up doing this charming fellow very recently -- sort of a last minute idea. The design wasn't that difficult, since he's supposed to resemble the Gazers. I already knew what they looked like.

Metal is a funny thing to paint -- typically you paint it all black, then add in harsh white highlights. But it's also very reflective, so it picks up on all the color of the things around it. I'm not sure how well I succeeded here.

And of course he has his stack of books -- because what metal man doesn't like books, right? Imagine the sound of those metal feet on a stone floor, creeping along behind you while you're perusing the book stacks. Probably give you nightmares. But I think he's quite magnificent.
